How do I set up the daily email report?

Short answer

Go to Notifications, then Email, switch on Daily Out of Stock Report, choose a time and add at least one recipient. Each report is an email with a CSV file of your out of stock products.

How do I get a daily out of stock email for my Shopify store?

  1. Open Stock Monitor in your Shopify admin and go to Notifications, then Email.
  2. In the Daily Out of Stock Report card, switch it on. The badge changes from Inactive to Active.
  3. Choose a Scheduled time. The list runs hourly from 01:00 to 23:00, and the default is 08:00.
  4. Under Email recipients, type an address and select Add. Repeat for everyone who should get the report. You need at least one address, and you can remove one with the X on its tag.
  5. Select Save.
When does the first report arrive?

The next day. Each day's reports are lined up shortly after midnight UTC, so turning the report on or changing its time only takes effect from the next day. The screen says Any changes made to the schedule time will not take effect until the next day.

Pick the hour in your shop's time zone, the one in your Shopify settings. If your shop is not on UTC time, the report can currently arrive at a different local hour from the one you chose. If that happens, email [email protected] with the hour you chose and when the report arrived.

Reports only start once your plan is active. See How do I get started with Stock Monitor?

How many people can receive it?

Every shop can currently add up to 10 recipients to the daily report. The screen shows how many you have used next to the Email recipients label.

What is in the report?

  • The subject is Daily Out of Stock Report for followed by your shop name. It comes from Stock Monitor at [email protected].
  • The email shows Total products out of stock: the number out of stock, then the number of products Stock Monitor monitors. A button called Discover more insights opens Stock Monitor.
  • A CSV file is attached. Its columns are ID, Title, Last In Stock and Days Out of Stock. Last In Stock is a date, or N/A if there is none.

Out of stock follows your status mode, and excluded products are left out. The list reflects your stock when the report is sent, but Days Out of Stock comes from the nightly record, so it can be a day behind. The report is sent every day, including days when nothing is out of stock.

Can I get a low inventory email for my Shopify products?

Not in the daily report, which lists only products that are out of stock. Low stock comes from a separate card. The same Email screen has two more cards, Low Stock Notification and Out of Stock Notification. They email you when a product's stock changes, at most once a day for each product, and they have their own recipients. You will not get an email for products that are already low or out of stock when you switch them on. The low stock one has its own threshold, explained in How do I set the low stock threshold?

What if the report does not arrive?

  • Check that the card shows Active and that you selected Save.
  • Check that you added at least one recipient.
  • Check the spam folder for the sender [email protected].
  • Remember that the first report arrives the day after you switch it on. You can also get the report in Slack.
